A note from our founder. Where it all started . . .

It started out as a simple little newspaper that our two boys made one night when they were supposed to be in bed (in their “bunk beds”). They called it The Bunk Room. Articles about the goings on with our family and friends were hand-scrolled across the pages with all the passion that likely beset Benjamin Franklin in his early days of printing and publishing.

As the mother of these boys and their two sisters, I sensed they were on to something. My publishing background no doubt took over as well, in addition to my passion for anything printed. I couldn’t resist helping them bring it to the next level. Suddenly this little middle-o-the-night creation took on a life of it’s own.

We are now establishing local publishers across the country to share The Bunk Room in their communities.

What’s special about The Bunk Room is that all our writers are kids too. We didn’t want the Slabys to be the only kids writing it. It’s much more fun to build something with other kids. Plus we all read stuff by adults all day long. Enough already!~

The Slaby Four all take part in The Bunk Room, lead by Margo, our Editor In Chief. Margo 17, gobbles up the exhilaration and pride of being part of a growing publication and inspiring kids to participate.

Very much in-the-scene is my husband and myself guiding and directing this very special publication for all the world to see and be seen in.

    It’s a win-win all over the place.

Big Smiles,

Maria, Mark

Editor In Chief: Margo Slaby

As the first Editor In Chief of The Bunk Room, Margo’s meteoric rise in publishing started early at the ripe old age of 14 when The Bunk Room was born. Now, as we bring The Bunk Room to print nationally, Margo continues to scale grand achievements. As the voice and ambassador of all things Bunk Room, Margo plays an essential role at inspiring and kids to love writing. (Make sure you subscribe to our E-newsletter to stay up-to-date on all things Bunk Room, including publishing deadlines. Plus we can never get enough of Margo’s “Chipmunk” voice on those videos!

Margo also is our first mate in assisting our national publishers as well as our local advertisers in Central Florida.

As if all that weren’t enough, Margo also attends Rasmussen College pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Internet Marketing. As a junior in college, this high school senior also is a violinist for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra in Orlando, attends the Mount Dora School of Ballet and is Captain and three year letter winner on the Mount Dora High School swim team.

Now if she could only keep her room clean.... :)

Stand back and enjoy as Margo brings her joy and enthusiasm of The Bunk Room.

"The only way to love both reading and writing, and ultimately learning, is to feel its relevance. The Bunk Room strives to do just that."

~ Maria Slaby, Founding Publisher of The Bunk Room

"If you have an idea of what you want to make, what you were put here to do, then just go do that...Normally there are things you have to do before you can get to the place where you want to be. I wanted to write comics and stories and films, so I became a journalist...."
